Ardan International Review 2026

August 14, 2026 Book a Free Portfolio Review

A modern offshore investment platform for international investors. Ardan is a platform I use for the majority of my portfolio. If you have read my other blogs, you will see that I split my portfolio between a few platforms and the reasons behind that. Ardan is simple; it allows me to access the investments I like at a good rate. Other platforms are use are because they have strengths in other areas.

Ardan International has established itself as one of the leading independent investment platforms for expats and internationally mobile investors. In this 2026 review, we’ll explore the platform’s features, fee structure, investment options, security, and who it is best suited for.

Established in 2013 and headquartered on the Isle of Man, Ardan International was designed as a modern, transparent alternative to traditional offshore investment bonds. The platform offers flexibility and accessibility, making it particularly attractive to expats, globally mobile professionals, trustees, and corporate investors looking for an efficient way to manage their wealth.

Today, Ardan International forms part of International Financial Group Limited (IFGL), a well-established provider of international financial services. Backed by institutional-grade infrastructure and supported through a network of licensed financial advisers, the platform combines robust security with a straightforward and user-friendly investment experience.

This is also another reason why I like Ardan: simple to sign up, easy to use and well backed, meaning that my money has a good level of security.

Key features of Ardan International

One of the reasons Ardan International has become a popular choice for expats and international investors is its combination of strong regulation, investment flexibility, and transparent pricing. Below are some of the platform’s standout features.

Isle of Man Regulated

Ardan International is regulated by the Isle of Man Financial Services Authority (IOMFSA), one of the world’s most respected offshore regulators. The Isle of Man has an Aa3 sovereign credit rating from Moody’s and is widely recognised by the IMF as a leading international financial centre with a strong regulatory framework.

Part of the IFGL Group

Founded in 2013, Ardan International is part of International Financial Group Limited (IFGL), which also owns well-known international financial services businesses including RL360 and Friends Provident International. Collectively, the group administers more than $25 billion in assets for over 216,000 policyholders worldwide.

Independent Financial Strength

Ardan is the only international wealth platform to hold an AKG B (Strong) financial strength rating alongside an AKG 5-Star Service Rating, reflecting both the company’s financial stability and commitment to client service.

Access to Over 80,000 Investments

The platform provides access to an extensive investment universe, including more than 80,000 investment instruments, such as:

  • Mutual funds
  • Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs)
  • Global equities
  • Structured notes
  • Fixed income investments
  • Cash and money market funds

This allows investors to build diversified portfolios within a single account.

Open Architecture Investment Platform

Unlike many traditional offshore products, Ardan operates on a genuine open architecture model. Investors are free to combine institutional and retail funds, ETFs, listed shares, structured products, and professionally managed model portfolios within the same account.

Transparent and Competitive Fees

One of Ardan’s biggest strengths is its straightforward pricing structure.

The platform charges a 0.40% annual platform and custody fee, with no:

  • Entry fees
  • Exit penalties
  • Lock-in periods
  • Minimum annual platform fees

This transparent approach is often significantly more cost-effective than many traditional offshore investment bonds.

Complimentary Beneficiary Trust

Every Ardan account includes access to a Beneficiary Trust at no additional cost. This enables assets to pass directly to nominated beneficiaries upon death, helping avoid the delays and expenses associated with probate while supporting efficient estate planning.

Award-Winning Service

Ardan International has received widespread industry recognition, winning Best International Platform at the International Investment Awards on six occasions (2017, 2018, 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023).

Online access with adviser support

Although Ardan is an adviser-led platform, clients have secure online access to their accounts, providing:

  • Real-time portfolio valuations
  • Performance monitoring
  • Transaction history
  • Investment reporting
  • Complete portfolio visibility

This combines the convenience of modern online investing with ongoing professional advice and portfolio management.

Ardan International platform: features and capabilities

At its core, Ardan International is a modern online investment platform designed for expats and internationally mobile investors. Unlike traditional offshore insurance bonds, Ardan is a direct investment platform, meaning your investments are held in your own account rather than within an insurance wrapper. This provides greater transparency, flexibility, and control over your portfolio.

Whether you’re investing for retirement, building long-term wealth, or managing assets across multiple countries, the platform combines institutional-grade infrastructure with an intuitive online experience.

Online Access and Portfolio Reporting

Ardan’s online portal allows both clients and their financial advisers to monitor investments at any time from anywhere in the world.

The screenshot below shows how funds can be analysed through Allfunds when reviewing investment options available on the Ardan platform.

Key features include:

  • Real-time portfolio valuations
  • Secure online access 24 hours a day
  • Comprehensive portfolio reporting and performance monitoring
  • Transaction history and investment statements
  • Adviser-controlled client access levels
  • Digital account opening and online application process
  • Secure document storage and messaging

The platform is designed to provide complete transparency, allowing investors to clearly see how their portfolio is performing without hidden charges or complicated structures.

Multi-Currency Investing

One of Ardan’s biggest strengths is its true multi-currency functionality, making it particularly attractive for expats.

Clients can:

  • Hold investments in 11 major currencies
  • Maintain multiple currencies within a single account
  • Switch between currencies online at competitive foreign exchange rates
  • Change the portfolio’s base currency if circumstances change
  • Invest without the need to open multiple investment accounts

This flexibility is particularly valuable for investors earning income in one currency while planning to spend or retire in another.

Flexible Investment Management

Ardan offers several ways to manage investments depending on an investor’s experience and preferences.

Adviser Managed

Many investors choose to work alongside a regulated financial adviser who can:

  • Execute investment switches and trades
  • Rebalance portfolios
  • Provide ongoing investment advice
  • Monitor portfolio suitability over time

Discretionary Portfolio Management

For those who prefer a hands-off approach, Ardan also integrates with a range of Discretionary Fund Managers (DFMs) who manage portfolios professionally according to a chosen investment strategy and risk level.

Model Portfolios

Investors can also access professionally constructed model portfolios designed around different investment objectives, income requirements, and risk profiles.

Complimentary Beneficiary Trust

Every eligible Ardan General Investment Account can include a Beneficiary Trust at no additional cost.

This provides several estate planning advantages, including:

  • Assets passing directly to nominated beneficiaries
  • Avoiding the delays and costs associated with probate
  • Simplifying the transfer of wealth
  • Helping ensure assets are distributed according to the investor’s wishes

For many expats with family members in different countries, this can be a valuable estate planning feature.

Account Types

Ardan offers several account structures depending on an investor’s needs.

These include:

  • General Investment Account (GIA) – the platform’s flagship investment account
  • Self-Invested Personal Pension (SIPP) for qualifying clients
  • Accounts for individuals
  • Joint accounts (where appropriate)
  • Trustee accounts
  • Corporate investment accounts

Investors can also hold multiple portfolios under a single secure login, making it easier to manage different investment objectives in one place.

What can you invest in through Ardan International?

One of the platform’s biggest strengths is its open architecture, giving investors access to a broad global investment universe rather than being restricted to a limited panel of products.

Today, Ardan provides access to more than 80,000 investment instruments across virtually every major asset class.

Mutual Funds

Investors can choose from thousands of funds managed by some of the world’s leading asset managers.

Available options include:

  • Active investment funds
  • Passive index funds
  • Institutional and retail share classes
  • Multi-asset portfolios
  • Global equity funds
  • Fixed income funds
  • Emerging market funds
  • Property and infrastructure funds
  • ESG and sustainable investment funds
  • Thematic investment strategies

Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs)

For investors looking for low-cost diversification, Ardan offers access to a wide range of ETFs listed on major global exchanges.

Examples include:

  • Global equity ETFs
  • U.S. market ETFs
  • European and Asian market ETFs
  • Bond ETFs
  • Commodity ETFs
  • Dividend income ETFs
  • Smart beta and factor-based ETFs
  • Sector-specific ETFs, including technology, healthcare, and clean energy

Individual Equities

Clients can also invest directly in listed shares on many of the world’s major stock exchanges.

This enables investors to build concentrated portfolios alongside diversified funds and ETFs.

Structured products

Ardan also provides access to a range of structured investments available through leading global investment banks.

Depending on availability, these may include:

  • Fixed-income structured notes
  • Capital-protected investments
  • Defined-return strategies
  • Memory income products
  • Autocallable investments

These solutions can complement a diversified portfolio, although they generally carry additional dealing charges and should be considered as part of an overall investment strategy.

Cash and Money Market Funds

For investors seeking lower volatility or waiting for investment opportunities, Ardan provides access to cash solutions and money market funds.

These can be useful for:

  • Holding short-term cash
  • Generating income on uninvested balances
  • Managing liquidity before making long-term investments

Professional Portfolio Management

For investors who prefer not to manage investments themselves, Ardan integrates with a range of professional portfolio managers.

These include:

  • Third-party Discretionary Fund Managers (DFMs)
  • Adviser-managed portfolios
  • Risk-rated model portfolios
  • Income-focused portfolios
  • Growth and balanced investment strategies

A Truly Open Investment Platform

Unlike many traditional offshore investment products that restrict investors to a limited range of funds, Ardan operates on a genuine open-architecture model. This means investors can combine mutual funds, ETFs, individual shares, structured investments, and professionally managed portfolios within a single account.

For internationally mobile investors, this flexibility is one of the platform’s greatest strengths. Rather than being tied to a specific investment provider or product, clients can build diversified portfolios tailored to their own objectives, risk tolerance, and long-term financial goals, while benefiting from transparent pricing, robust Isle of Man regulation, and secure online access from anywhere in the world.

Ardan International fees 2026

One of Ardan International’s biggest advantages is its simple and transparent fee structure. Unlike many traditional offshore investment bonds, there are no complex charging layers, surrender penalties, or lengthy lock-in periods. Investors know exactly what they are paying, making it easier to understand the true cost of investing.

Platform and Custody Fee

Ardan charges a competitive annual platform fee that covers the administration and custody of your investments.

Current platform fees are:

Portfolio ValueAnnual Platform Fee
Up to $500,0000.40%
$500,000 – $1,000,0000.35%
$1,000,000 – $1,500,0000.30%
Continues to reduce by 0.05% for each additional $500,000 invested

Some of the key benefits include:

  • No account opening fees
  • No exit or surrender penalties
  • No lock-in periods
  • No minimum annual platform fee
  • Annual fee calculated based on the value of assets held within the platform

This tiered structure means larger portfolios benefit from progressively lower platform costs.

Trading and Dealing Charges

Ardan applies dealing charges when investments are bought or sold. These charges are straightforward and generally competitive for an international investment platform.

Typical dealing charges include:

Investment TypeTypical Charge
Mutual Funds & ETFs£5 per trade, plus any applicable stockbroker fees
Listed EquitiesStandard stockbroker dealing charges apply
Structured Notes£40 per transaction
Transfers Out£5 per transfer

For investors who make relatively few transactions each year, dealing costs are usually a very small proportion of the overall portfolio value.

Underlying Investment Costs

Like virtually every investment platform, Ardan does not manufacture its own funds. Instead, investors pay the normal charges set by the underlying fund managers.

These are known as the Ongoing Charges Figure (OCF) and typically range between:

  • 0.10% per year for low-cost passive index funds and ETFs
  • 0.60%–1.00% for many actively managed funds
  • Up to 1.50% for certain specialist or thematic investment strategies

Where available, Ardan provides access to institutional share classes, which often carry lower annual charges than retail equivalents.

Adviser Charges

Ardan is an adviser-led platform, meaning any financial planning or investment management fees are agreed directly between you and your financial adviser.

The platform allows for:

  • Initial adviser fees of up to 5% (although most advisers typically charge between 1% and 3%)
  • Ongoing adviser fees of up to 1.5% per year, with many advisers charging between 0.50% and 1.00% annually

Because these fees are agreed in advance, investors have complete transparency over what they are paying for advice and ongoing portfolio management.

Currency Conversion

For expats and international investors, currency flexibility is one of Ardan’s major strengths.

When switching between currencies:

  • Competitive foreign exchange rates are applied
  • No separate published currency conversion fee is charged
  • The cost of conversion is incorporated into the exchange rate spread
  • Investors can hold multiple currencies within the same account, reducing the need for unnecessary conversions

What Does It Cost Overall?

For most investors using a diversified portfolio of funds or ETFs, the total annual cost generally consists of three components:

  • Platform Fee: Typically 0.30%–0.40% depending on portfolio size
  • Underlying Fund Charges (OCF): Usually 0.10%–1.50%
  • Financial Adviser Fee: Typically 0.50%–1.00% per year (where applicable)

As a result, a typical investor can expect total ongoing annual costs of approximately 1.0% to 2.5%, depending on the investments selected and the level of advice received.

My Verdict on Ardan’s Fees

Compared with many traditional offshore investment bonds, Ardan International offers one of the more transparent pricing structures available. There are no hidden product charges, surrender penalties, or long-term contractual commitments. Instead, investors benefit from a clear annual platform fee, competitive dealing costs, and the flexibility to build a portfolio using thousands of funds, ETFs, shares, and other investments.

For expats seeking a modern offshore investment platform, this straightforward fee model is one of Ardan International’s strongest selling points.

Opening an Ardan International account

Opening an account with Ardan International is a straightforward process, although it is important to note that the platform is adviser-led. This means accounts must be opened through a regulated financial adviser who will assess your suitability, recommend an appropriate investment strategy, and guide you through the application process.

For most clients, the entire process can be completed digitally and typically takes only a few business days once all documentation has been received.

Step 1: Initial consultation

The process begins with a meeting with your financial adviser to discuss:

  • Your financial goals and investment objectives
  • Investment experience and knowledge
  • Risk tolerance
  • Time horizon
  • Tax residency and personal circumstances

Based on this information, your adviser will recommend a suitable investment strategy and platform structure.

Step 2: Complete the Application

Once a recommendation has been agreed, your adviser will submit the application electronically through the Ardan adviser portal.

The application includes details such as:

  • Personal information
  • Tax residency and reporting information
  • Investment objectives
  • Preferred account currency
  • Beneficiary details (where applicable)

The digital application process is designed to be simple and efficient, with electronic signatures accepted in most cases.

Step 3: Identity Verification

As with any regulated financial institution, Ardan must comply with international Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Know Your Customer (KYC) requirements.

Applicants will normally need to provide:

  • A valid passport or government-issued photo ID
  • Proof of residential address (such as a utility bill or bank statement)
  • Evidence of the source of wealth or source of funds, such as employment contracts, payslips, or investment statements

Depending on your circumstances, additional documentation may occasionally be requested.

Step 4: Account Setup

Once your application has been approved, your adviser will configure the account to match your investment requirements.

This includes:

  • Selecting your preferred base currency
  • Setting up multi-currency facilities (if required)
  • Agreeing the portfolio structure
  • Establishing adviser permissions
  • Completing Beneficiary Trust nominations where appropriate

Step 5: Funding Your Account

Accounts can be funded via bank transfer in a range of supported currencies.

Key points include:

  • Multi-currency deposits are accepted
  • No official minimum investment is published by Ardan, although advisers may set practical minimums depending on the investment solution being recommended
  • Existing investment portfolios can also be transferred to the platform where appropriate

Step 6: Start Investing

Once funds have been received and cleared, the account becomes fully operational.

Both you and your adviser will receive secure online access, allowing you to:

  • View your portfolio in real time
  • Monitor performance
  • Access reports and valuations
  • Review transactions
  • Manage investments online

For most applications, the entire account opening process can be completed within a few business days (usually quicker from an Ardan perspective), provided all required documentation has been supplied.

Is Ardan International safe?

When selecting an international investment platform, security and financial strength are just as important as investment choice. Ardan International scores well in both areas, combining robust regulation with institutional backing and modern security standards.

Strong Regulatory Oversight

Ardan International is authorised and regulated by the Isle of Man Financial Services Authority (IOMFSA), one of the world’s most respected offshore financial regulators.

The Isle of Man is recognised for its strong legal and regulatory framework and offers investors a stable environment for international wealth management.

Key regulatory strengths include:

  • Regulation by the Isle of Man Financial Services Authority (IOMFSA)
  • Client assets held separately from company assets in accordance with regulatory requirements
  • The Isle of Man holds an Aa3 sovereign credit rating from Moody’s
  • Recognised by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) as a leading international finance centre

Protection of Client Assets

Investor assets are held separately from Ardan’s own balance sheet through independent custodial arrangements.

This segregation of client assets is an important safeguard and helps ensure that client investments remain ring-fenced from the company’s operating finances.

Platform security

Ardan employs modern technology to protect client information and online accounts.

Security features include:

  • Secure encrypted online access
  • Two-factor authentication (where available)
  • Regular security updates and compliance monitoring
  • Secure document storage and digital communications

These measures are designed to protect both client data and investment accounts from unauthorised access.

Financial Strength

Ardan International also benefits from the financial stability of its parent company, International Financial Group Limited (IFGL).

Highlights include:

  • AKG B (Strong) financial strength rating
  • Part of the IFGL Group, which administers more than $25 billion in assets
  • More than 216,000 policyholders and clients globally
  • Over a decade of operational history
  • Conservative capital management and governance standards

Potential drawbacks of Ardan International

While Ardan International is an excellent platform for long-term investors and expats, no investment platform is perfect. Whether it is the right choice depends on your investment objectives, portfolio size, and how actively you intend to manage your investments.

Not Designed for Active Traders

Ardan is built as a long-term investment and wealth management platform rather than an active trading platform. If you regularly buy and sell shares, ETFs, or other securities, lower-cost alternatives such as Interactive Brokers or Saxo Bank are likely to be more suitable.

These platforms typically offer:

  • Lower dealing commissions
  • Faster trade execution
  • Advanced trading tools and charting
  • Access to options, futures, CFDs, and margin trading
  • Greater flexibility for high-frequency investors

For investors who trade frequently, Ardan’s dealing charges can become more expensive over time.

Higher Fees Than Discount Brokers

Although Ardan is competitively priced within the offshore wealth management market, its fees are generally higher than those of low-cost online investment platforms.

Investors who simply want to buy a small number of ETFs and manage their own portfolio may find providers such as Interactive Brokers more cost-effective.

However, it’s important to remember that Ardan provides additional features that many discount brokers do not, including estate planning options, adviser integration, multi-currency investing, and access to institutional investment solutions.

Adviser-Led Platform

Ardan is primarily designed to be used through a regulated financial adviser. While clients benefit from professional guidance and ongoing portfolio management, investors who prefer a completely self-directed investing experience may find this model less appealing.

Limited Advanced Trading Features

Unlike dedicated brokerage platforms, Ardan is not intended for sophisticated traders. It does not focus on features such as:

  • Intraday trading tools
  • Professional charting software
  • Algorithmic or automated trading
  • Options and futures trading
  • Margin lending and leveraged products

Its primary purpose is long-term wealth management rather than short-term market speculation.

Less Suitable for Smaller Portfolios

Although Ardan no longer has a minimum annual platform fee, investors with relatively small portfolios may still find lower-cost alternatives available. For those investing modest amounts into a handful of index funds or ETFs, a low-cost online broker may provide better value.

How Ardan compares to other investment platforms

Choosing the right investment platform depends on how you invest, where you live, and whether you require ongoing financial advice. Some platforms are designed for long-term wealth management with adviser support, while others are aimed at self-directed investors looking for the lowest possible costs.

The table below compares some of the most popular platforms used by expats and international investors.

Which Platform Is Right for You?

Ardan International

Ardan is best suited to expats and internationally mobile investors who want a professionally managed investment account with excellent multi-currency functionality. It offers transparent pricing, broad investment choice and no lock-in periods, making it an attractive alternative to many traditional offshore products.

Novia Global & Morningstar Wealth Platform

Novia Global and Morningstar Wealth Platform are Ardan’s closest competitors. Both offer adviser-led investment platforms with transparent charging structures and excellent investment choice. They are particularly well suited to UK residents and British expats who require products such as ISAs and SIPPs alongside their investment portfolios. Overall costs are broadly comparable to Ardan, although Novia can be slightly cheaper for larger portfolios due to its fee cap.

Interactive Brokers

Interactive Brokers is widely regarded as one of the lowest-cost investment platforms in the world. It offers institutional-grade execution, access to almost every major global market, and exceptionally low trading commissions. However, it is designed for self-directed investors and does not provide financial planning or adviser-led portfolio management. It is an excellent choice for experienced investors but can feel overwhelming for beginners.

Swissquote

Swissquote combines online investing with the security of a Swiss bank. It offers access to a broad range of investments and is particularly popular among investors who value Swiss regulation and banking stability. While generally more expensive than Interactive Brokers, many investors appreciate its straightforward platform and premium banking services.

RL360 & Utmost International

Although often compared with Ardan, RL360 and Utmost International are fundamentally different products. Rather than direct investment platforms, they are offshore insurance bond providers.

These structures can be highly effective for:

  • International estate planning
  • Trust and succession planning
  • Tax planning in certain jurisdictions
  • High-net-worth investors requiring insurance wrappers

However, they are generally more expensive than direct investment platforms and may include product-specific charging structures that make them less suitable for investors who simply want a flexible investment account. For most long-term investors looking for transparency and flexibility, a direct platform such as Ardan, Novia or Morningstar will often be the simpler solution.

We have written a lot of blogs explaining offshore bonds:

Final verdict: is Ardan International worth it?

I believe it is one of the strongest offshore investment platforms currently available for expats and internationally mobile investors.

No platform is perfect, and Ardan is no exception. If your objective is to actively trade shares, ETFs, options, or other securities every week, there are better and cheaper alternatives available. Platforms such as Interactive Brokers or Saxo Bank offer lower dealing costs, more advanced trading tools, and are better suited to active investors.

However, that isn’t what Ardan was designed for.

Ardan is built for long-term wealth management rather than active trading. It provides access to an enormous investment universe, transparent pricing, true multi-currency functionality, and strong regulatory oversight from the Isle of Man. Combined with features such as beneficiary trusts, adviser support, and a straightforward fee structure, it offers an attractive solution for investors who want to build and preserve wealth over many years.

One aspect that gives me confidence in recommending the platform is that I use it myself. I personally hold several million dollars of my own investments and am quite transparent about this and where I invest. I believe it’s important to use the same solutions that I recommend to clients, as it provides first-hand experience of how the platform operates on a day-to-day basis.

That said, I use Ardan as a long-term holding platform, not as an active trading account. Typically, I only make a handful of investment changes each year, allowing my portfolio to compound over time. For smaller portfolios or situations where I want to trade more actively, I prefer specialist brokerage platforms such as Interactive Brokers, which offer lower dealing costs and are designed specifically for frequent trading.

Another reason I continue to use Ardan is its jurisdiction. The Isle of Man has long been recognised as one of the world’s leading international financial centres, with a strong legal framework, robust regulation, and an excellent reputation for investor protection. For someone building long-term international wealth, that provides an additional level of confidence.

From a cost perspective, I currently benefit from a reduced platform fee of around 0.20%–0.25% per year because of the size of my portfolio. While that isn’t the cheapest available platform, I consider the fee to be fair given the level of service, security, flexibility, and investment access that the platform provides. In my view, paying a modest annual fee for a well-regulated platform that I trust is a worthwhile trade-off.
